Drug Uses

Noroxin is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections and it works by preventing bacterial DNA from duplicating.

Usage

Medication must always be taken as advised by your medical practitioner/physician. If you are unsure, then please contact your physician for precise instructions. On the other hand, the medicine label usually contains dosage instructions which also may be followed.

You are advised to take Noroxin at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal or dairy product.

Maintain a gap of at least 2-3 hours with any products containing magnesium, aluminum, or calcium. Some examples include quinapril, certain forms of didanosine (chewable/dispersible buffered tablets or pediatric oral solution), vitamins/minerals, and antacids. Calcium-enriched juices, sucralfate, bismuth subsalicylate, iron, and zinc are also included.

A full glass of water when taken with Noroxin always ensures better absorption.

Medications are prescribed according to a dosage schedule which must be completed in order to reap the benefits of the treatment. Lapsed schedules render Noroxin ineffective. So, never stop in between unless advised by your physician.

One of the best ways to ensure that you do not miss out on a dose is to maintain a fixed regime for consuming Noroxin each day.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Noroxin falls under quinolone antibiotics and it works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

Missed Dose

You must maintain a schedule for taking the medicine at the same time each day so that you do not miss out on any doses. But, in the advent of a missed dose, take it as soon as you remember so that you can compensate for the loss of the dose.

But, then you may need to adjust your remaining doses accordingly. And if it is almost time for the next dose, then please skip the missed dose and continue with the normal schedule.

Never try to compensate for the missed dose by taking a double dose together. It may cause adverse effects.

Storage

Noroxin must be stored at a cool and dark place that prevents it from direct exposure to sunlight. It should also be protected from kids and pets. You can store it at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C).
Side Effects

It is common to experience some temporary and mildly annoying side effects as the body adjusts to the new drug. These rarely require any special medical attention and usually fade away automatically.

These include nausea, headache, stomach upset, weakness, dizziness, diarrhea or drowsiness

But, if they refuse to fade away or become bothersome, then seek medical attention immediately.

On the other hand, if you experience serious side effects like tremor, sunburn-like skin reaction (sun sensitivity). Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: seizures, mental/mood changes (including rare thoughts of suicide), persistent sore throat/fever, vision changes, hearing loss, change in amount or appearance of urine, yellowing of the eyes/skin, fainting, fast/slow/irregular heartbeat, easy bruising/bleeding, numbness/tingling of arms/legs. This medication may rarely cause tendon damage (e.g., tendon rupture, tendonitis). Stop exercising, rest, and seek immediate medical attention if you experience joint/tendon pain.

This medication may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition (pseudomembranous colitis) due to a resistant bacteria. This condition may occur weeks after treatment has stopped. Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic pain medications if you have the following symptoms because these products may make them worse. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop: persistent diarrhea, abdominal or stomach pain/cramping, blood/mucus in your stool. Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in oral thrush or a new vaginal yeast infection (oral or vaginal fungal infection). Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor orpharmacist.

In some cases, you may also notice side effects that are not listed here. In such cases, seek medical attention.
